Emergency Fund Updates & Resources for Residents affected by flooding

The Generations United Emergency Fund is committing $6,000 of financial assistance for families in the form of household goods, replacing household items, rainy day supplies and apparel Groceries, and more.

We are meeting with families frequently to assess and provide for their immediate needs. In addition to the economic disadvantages they faced prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our students’ parents are out of work or have had hours drastically cut due to school and business closures, lack of childcare, and lack of access to resources. The floods in early 2023 have presented a significant and additional challenge to the families we serve, particularly in neighboring trailer park communities. We are one of many organizations in the Bay Area working hard to support these families and individuals, and it would not be possible without YOU!

Emergency Fund FAQs

How can I donate and designate my gift?

Visit our DONATE page on our website. There is a “notes” section in PayPal where you can write “Emergency” to designate your donation to the Neighbors Together Emergency Fund. You can mail us a check to PO Box 5131, Redwood City, CA 94063 and include a note that indicates it’s for the Emergency Fund.

How can families in need access support?

If families need help with food, rent, or other essentials, they are asked to call Generations United at 650-619-1300 or email info@generationsunited.com. Our staff will conduct need assessments weekly.

How much funding does each family receive from the Family Emergency Fund?

At this time, we are fulfilling requests as we are able based on need and funds available. All bills including rent, utility, and other needs will be paid directly to the Payee/Debtor/Landlord/Company. Families will also receive gift cards for gas and quarters for laundromat needs.

How does GU know how much financial support will be needed?

The short answer is: we don’t yet know; it depends on the scope and severity of this crisis. Families in crisis did not have reserves and may have lost of wages or had no means to replace damaged items.

How are these programs administered?

Our GU staff, under the leadership of Angie Ibarra (Founder & Executive Director) will be meeting with families and assessing needs in real time and determining the best way to meet them. Input and support are also offered by GU’s Board of Directors.
